Since 1733, people have gathered at the Sumida River to watch fireworks in the summer time. Now one of Tokyo’s biggest annual fireworks festivals, every year in July it has traditional fireworks displays, as well as a contest for new creative fireworks. It can get crowded, so the best place to view the show is from one of the boats that cruise the Sumida River as the fireworks light up the sky.
