Sometimes known as the ‘Kitchen of Kyoto’, Nishiki Food Market is a narrow 400m long shopping street lined by over one hundred shops and restaurants. Almost all the establishments specialise in food and food-related goods, with a focus on fresh and local produce. Tourists and locals mingle as they browse the various storefronts selling various seasonal vegetables, pickles, side dishes, sweets and the freshest meat and fish. Many shops offer free samples too!
