Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine

A unique and popular shrine, Fushimi Inari-taisha is dedicated to the god of rice, Inari. Over 5000 bright orange torii gates line the paths that wind over the hills behind the shrine, and a walk to the upper reaches makes for pleasant and easy hiking. Peaceful graveyards and minature shrines are dotted along the paths, and eagle-eyed visitors will notice the many fox statues which serve as the messengers for the god of grain. Visit at dusk for an atmospheric stroll without the crowds.
